Job Description

DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONALS (DSPs) work with individuals who have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities within NEPS programs. Support services may occur in a variety of settings and may include: plan and facilitate community based activities focusing on the individual’s choices, assist in the development of the program, implementation of individual program goals, assist with personal care as needed and assigned, assist with daily living activities, teaching/developing skills, advocating with the individual, assist in communication and self-expression, and ultimately support the individual in meeting their own goals. DSPs adhere to the policies and procedures set forth by Northeast Placement Services (NEPS) and Department of Developmental Services (DDS).

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required;                                                                                                                                         
  • Ability to pass a background check and DDS Abuse and Neglect Registry check.
  • This position requires a valid driver’s license for 3 years, reliable transportation, a good driving record, and proof of auto insurance which must be maintained.                                                    
  • Certification in First Aid, CPR, DDS Medication Certification, and PMT (physical management training) - Training provided and must keep certs current 
  •  Sign language is a plus
  • .Ability to work cooperatively with peers and supervisor(s) and Director(s).
  • Ability to lift over 50 pounds.
  • May need to use personal vehicle at times (home has an assigned vehicle but instances do occur when a 2nd vehicle is needed)
  • Computer skills including knowledge of: Word, Outlook, Therap
  • Ability to attend mandatory agency trainings and meetings with one weeks’ notice. 
  • Arrive on time for scheduled shifts.  Though rare, it is known that you may get "frozen in" until next staff arrives.
