Job Description
DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONALS (DSPs) work with individuals who have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities within NEPS programs. Support services may occur in a variety of settings and may include: assist in the development of the program; implementation of individual program goals, plan and implement community-based activities focusing on participant’s choices; assist with personal care as needed and assigned; assist with daily living activities, teaching/developing skills, advocating with the individual, assist in communication and self-expression, and ultimately support the individual in meeting their own goals. DSPs adhere to the policies and procedures set forth by Northeast Placement Services (NEPS) and Department of Developmental Services (DDS).

- Provide input and assist Residential Manager in planning and evaluating the program & participant’s goals.
- Participate in scheduled staff meetings, In-Services and other meetings/trainings as assigned.
- Arrives on time to scheduled shifts, completes shift duty assignments including documentation.
- Encourages and facilitates participation in community activities, church, social events, entertainment, recreational opportunities, etc. of the individual’s choosing.
- Encourages positive attitudes and personal awareness by discussing concerns and setting a positive example. Neither encourages or participates in gossip or criticism of others or the program.
- Encourages independence in household responsibility by engaging the individuals in healthy meal planning/cooking, cleaning and organization, laundry, budgeting, shopping, etc.
- Assist in preparing nutritious and well-balanced meals in accordance with the individual’s dietary requirements.
- Encourages good personal hygiene and appropriate and clean attire. Offers assistance as needed.
- Employ positive approaches to redirecting individuals to a positive and productive demeanor.
- Immediately reports any concerns regarding health, safety and/or well-being of the individual.
- Follow OSHA regulations related to safety including utilizing universal precautions and personal protective equipment as needed/required.
- Perform any other duties related to the field of service as may be assigned by the Residential Supervisor, Residential Director and/or other NEPS Directors, and/or Executive Director.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; Must be 18+
- Ability to pass a background check and DDS Abuse and Neglect Registry check.
- Valid driver’s license for 3 years, a good driving record, and proof of auto insurance which must be maintained. May be required to use personal vehicle at times
- Certification in First Aid, CPR, DDS Medication Certification and PMT (physical management training (training provided and must keep current)
- Ability to lift over 50 pounds.
- Computer skills including knowledge of: Word, Outlook, (knowledge of Excel a plus) Therap and Sandata
- Ability to attend mandatory agency trainings and meetings with one weeks’ notice.
